What is the best electric heating for a conservatory?

Conservatories and Orangeries are now beautiful extensions to our homes whether you wanted extra space for entertaining, or it’s a relaxing place from the garden or its just a comfortable living space it is nice to have this space warm for 12 months of the year.

Probably 9 months of the year these extensions to our homes can be chilly and we want to either take that slight bite out of the air on a cool spring morning or have it fully heated in the winter so we don’t lose the space.

Installing a radiator in your new space does not require planning permission unless the radiator is to be connected to the central heating in the main house – then it will be subject to building regulations.

Conservatory Heating

One of the most common mistakes is when people want to include a gas radiator into the conservatory / orangery. This process takes time due to the regulations and additionally, it may not be an efficient way to heat this new space.  One of the best way ways to heat a conservatory is by using an electric option. A huge plus of using electric heating is that your conservatory heater can be controlled independently form the rest of your home.

Even So, the choice is immense in choosing electric heating for conservatories: from picking a style, a colour and deciding what type of heat / controls that you need to warm the space.

Due to the design of conservatories and orangeries they do draw the cold air in the cooler months as most of the build can be glass.  To warm up this space quickly you need a heater that works mainly on convection.  The reason being is, convection heaters are the best type of heaters to warm up a space rapidly- fantastic for adhoc times that friends are visiting.

Keeping the conservatory warm is also a major factor, as with your new conservatory being mainly glass (even though its doubled glazed) it will not hold the heat as long.  Because of this, you need to make sure your electric heater is efficient as it may have to be on longer, so you do not want to pay over the odds for running costs!
Another key element must be the design of the heater. We find that people spend thousands on designing and furnishing their wonderful new space and then fit a radiator into their conservatory that is unattractive, bulky and ruins the ambience that they were wanting to create.

The beautiful part of choosing electric heaters for your conservatory is that you can choose a shape to fit anywhere you want it to go. For instance, there are Junior styles that fit just under your windowsills or a stunning vertical radiator that looks like a piece of art and can merge in with the décor.

As well don’t forget Colour is an excellent way to compliment the style of your space. Currently, you have a full pallet of colour to choose from with the standardised RAL colours -imagine a striking radiator, slim in design, full of your chosen colour -they can look like a piece of art.

Additionally, nowadays you do not even have to be stuck with a certain colour. Some companies offer modular designs which is a huge benefit when it comes to changing colours. Your décor may be lemons and whites and you pick a soft lemon coloured radiator and then in a couple of years you change your décor to grey – all you do is swap out the front, top and sides of your radiator to anthracite which will give you a whole new look. Modular radiators can complement evert décor change you ever have.
