If you’ve spotted the word thermistor in heating specs and thought “what is that”!
You’re not alone.
A thermistor is a temperature sensor. It helps a heating system measure temperature accurately by changing its electrical resistance as temperature changes.
In normal-people terms: it’s one of the components that helps the system sense temperature so it can control heat sensibly.
Because heating control is basically a loop:
Measure temperature
Decide whether heat is needed
Turn the element on/off to maintain comfort
A thermistor is part of step 1.
Some setups use a sensor to help measure temperature in a specific spot (for example, near the floor). That can be useful for control and comfort, especially in rooms where temperature can vary from floor to ceiling.
If you’re not an engineer, here’s what to remember:
A thermistor is a sensor
Sensors help the system measure temperature
Better measurement supports steadier control (less guesswork)
