How to clean your electric heating unit

How to clean your electric heating unit

Spring has sprung. Daffodils are in bloom, the birds are singing and even the sun is starting to put in a fairly regular appearance. Clearly, it’s time for a bit of spring cleaning!

Or, a fresh new look?

Well, if you have one of our electric radiators, you will know that they come in a wide variety of colours so that you can tailor the look to the rest of your home and decor.

Seriously? Coloured radiators?

Yes, over 60 of them! You can even choose between a smooth or a wave style.

Snazzy eh?

Now, whilst our radiators are clearly a little different to the norm, every shape and variety will need to be cleaned from time to time to ensure they perform to the best of their ability.

A dirty, poorly maintained unit will end up costing you in the long run.

An excess of dust, for example, can compromise an electric radiator’s ability to convect – which means, if the dust is left to accumulate, you’ll ultimately be paying more for less heat.

So, is there a safe way to clean electric units without paying a professional to do the job?

The short answer is yes. Follow these three simple steps to give your electric heating unit the spring clean it deserves:

- First switch the unit off. You don’t want water getting near an electric current!

- Next set to work with your vacuum cleaner. Try to be as thorough as you can, vacuuming the inside and outside of the unit. The objective is to remove as much dust and dirt as possible. If your vacuum cleaner isn’t up to the task try removing internal dust with a hairdryer.

- Finally, clean the exterior of the unit with soap and water. Any pH neutral cleaning product used in small quantities will do the trick – just remember to avoid abrasive or acid-based cleaners as these will most likely damage the unit. Leave to dry before switching the radiator back on.

Easy!

Spring cleaning tends to go hand in hand with a good old tidy up.
