How Village Halls Can 'Go Green' With Their Heating This Village Halls Week

This ‘Village Halls Week’, ACRE (Action with Communities in Rural England) are inspiring village halls across the country to ‘go green’ in a push towards Net Zero. This annual celebration shines a light on the role village halls play in rural communities, providing social activities, community services, and local celebrations for their local communities. 

This year’s theme for Village Halls Week is one we find particularly exciting at Trust Electric Heating, ACRE are pushing village halls to ‘go green’ by examining how their building can be made more energy efficient, and how management committees can support sustainable and environmentally friendly behaviors within their community. By focusing on ‘going green’, ACRE are highlighting the importance of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, and sustainable practices in rural village halls, all which align with our values at Trust. 

For village halls looking to take part, ACRE have published plenty of free online resources, allowing with a ‘Net Zero Design Guide for Village and Community Halls’ in collaboration with stagg architects. It’s important to note that while many rural village halls are already off grid, a lot date back over 100 years so energy efficiency wasn’t a huge factor in their design plans. So from simple steps like switching to LED lighting, improving insulation, and investing in renewable energy sources, their guide provides guidance on both big and little steps that village halls can do to make a green difference.
