What is the difference between the NEOS radiator and Night Storage Heaters?

NEOS is a hybrid electric radiator built for modern electric heating. It runs on a standard electricity tariff, rather than relying on overnight charging tariffs like Economy 7 (E7) or Economy 10 (E10) that were designed around older night storage heaters.

Instead of storing heat overnight and releasing it whether you need it or not, the NEOS combines direct heat when you want it with a soapstone core that continues to give out warmth after the radiator switches off. The result is more usable warmth for your oom, plus the flexibility to heat rooms on your schedule.

The NEOS also features our patented back wall technology, designed to reduce heat loss into the wall behind the radiator and push more usable warmth into the room.

The NEOS can also be used with smart tariffs, such as Octopus Cosy, which provides 8 hours of off peak electricity every day.

How much is the running cost of the NEOS electric radiator?

Running costs depend on how you use your heating and the type of home you live in, so it is not something that can be accurately quoted without your room details and your electricity tariff.

Costs are usually affected by things like:

The size of your home and the rooms you want to heat
How warm you set each room, and when you heat it
Insulation levels, draughts/airtightness, and outside temperature
The type and size of your glazing
Whether doors are kept open or closed
“Incidental gains” (heat from sunshine, people, cooking, lighting and appliances)
Your electricity tariff and unit rate
The heat output (kW) needed for the space, and how you operate the radiators

If you want a simple way to estimate the cost for a radiator, you can use this guide formula:

Running cost=Radiator kW×Hours running×Electricity unit rate (per kWh)

For example, a 1.0 kW radiator running for 3 hours at 25.73p per kWh would cost about 77p for that period (1.0 × 3 × 25.73p). In real use, the radiator will not always draw full power continuously once the room is up to temperature, so actual costs can be lower depending on the room and settings.

How is the NEOS radiator different from other electric heaters?

Our dimpled back wall is designed to help reduce heat loss into the wall behind the radiator and direct more warmth back into your room instead, giving you more usable warmth from the electricity you pay for. How is the NEOS radiator different from Fischer electric radiators?

One of the main differences is the way the NEOS radiator has been designed. While Fischer electric radiators are commonly associated with a clay core and steel casing, Unlike Fischer radiators, which typically use a clay core and mild steel casing, the NEOS uses a soapstone core and an aluminium body. Soapstone holds heat and gradually releases warmth after the power is off, while aluminium transfers heat faster and more evenly than steel. The NEOS also features a patented back panel design that helps reduce rear heat loss by up to 35%, pushing more warmth into the room instead of the wall behind it.

There are also some differences in control and support. NEOS radiators can be used with a range of thermostat options, including smart controls and zoned heating, depending on the setup chosen. We also offer a 25 year manufacturer’s warranty and a 100 day warmth guarantee, which many customers find reassuring when comparing long term value.

Can the NEOS radiator be freestanding?

It’s one of the most requested features!, but the NEOS radiator is designed to be wall-mounted, so it doesn’t currently have a freestanding option. NEOS radiators are made to order for your home, so you can choose the right model and heat output for each room.

Despite being built for strong performance, the radiator is only around 20kg on average, so it typically doesn’t need extra support beyond correct fixing into a suitable wall. Once installed, it gives you an efficient, space-saving setup with a clean, modern finish.

Can the NEOS electric radiators be installed in bathrooms?

Yes as long as it is installed at least 60cm away from the water source.

Can I install the electric radiator myself?

Yes, you can install the radiator yourself. NEOS radiators are typically powered from a nearby domestic 3-pin socket, or they can be hard-wired into a fused spur. If hard-wiring is required, or if any electrical upgrades are needed, this would usually need to be done by a qualified electrician. Alternatively, We can install the radiators for you, and we can also remove and dispose of old storage heaters if needed. Removal and disposal is £75 per old storage heater, or 50% off if you can take the heater off the wall yourself and have it ready for collection. Our team will collect and dispose of it in line with WEE compliance.
